POST OF CARE ASSISTANT

ACCOUNTABLE TO: SOCIAL CARE LEADER

Lorrequer House provides care for six adults with mild to moderate
intellectual disability with no challenging behaviours. We are a
community based service and work from a person centred approach. Our
ethos is based on community integration and we provide a committed,
caring, home-from-home environment.

A vacancy exists for a full time, permanent Care Assistant in
Lorrequer House.
REMUNERATION WILL BE COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE.

* _ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION REQUIRED: MINIMUM FETAC/QQI RECOGNISED
LEVEL 5 IN SOCIAL CARE, CARE ASSISTANCE OR A RELATED FIELD._
* ELIGIBLE TO WORK IN IRELAND, IRP CARD (IF A NON-EU CITIZEN)
REQUIRED

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL WORK AS PART OF A TEAM UNDER THE
DIRECTION AND SUPERVISION OF THE SOCIAL CARE LEADER TO:

* provide the highest quality person-centred care to residents in an
environment that is friendly, positive and inclusive
* empower residents to live self-determined lives
* promote the health and safety of each individual

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA FOR APPLICANTS:

* An understanding of the needs, experiences and rights of adults
with intellectual disability.
* A commitment to helping people to make choices for themselves.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and
written.
* Speak fluent English.
* Good timekeeping.
* Good organisational skills including the ability to prioritise
workloads.
* Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
* Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, sleepovers and
weekends.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA FOR APPLICANTS:

* Good domestic skills
* Previous experience of work in a social care or related area.
* Up to date Occupational First aid and Manual handling training.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST

To work as a member of a residential care team under the direction and
guidance of Senior staff to create and maintain a safe and nurturing
home-like environment in accordance with agreed programmes of care
aimed at promoting independence.
_The Care Assistant role will vary according to the needs of each
individual._

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* To assist in maintaining a home from home environment that is
friendly, positive and inclusive, that encourages choice in relation
to day to day living and promotes the health and safety of each
individual, in accordance with the ethos of Lorrequer House.
* To establish and maintain relationships with each individual that
is based on respect and equality and promotes their independence.
* To be sensitive to the needs of each individual taking into
account communication difficulties, health requirements and any aging
related issues that might arise.
* To undertake household and domestic duties as required and assist
in the general upkeep of the home.
* To contribute to the formulation and implementation of care plans
for each individual.
* To support key workers in their work with individuals and when
required to undertake key worker duties and associated
responsibilities
* To contribute to the maintenance of records in relation to each
individual.
* To read and write reports, take part in staff and resident
meetings and in training activities, as directed.
* To share relevant information with colleagues at handover times
and staff meetings.
* To inform the Social Care Leader of any concerns regarding the
safety and welfare of any individual living in Lorrequer House, this
includes reporting of any concerns regarding the behaviour or
practices of other staff.
* To support and promote maximum opportunities for community
involvement for individuals residing in our home.
* To accompany individuals, when necessary, to places of worship, on
holidays, on outings, to health care appointments and to other events
as may arise.
* To maintain appropriate professional contact with family members
and other professionals and agencies involved in the lives of the
individuals living in Lorrequer House.
* To adhere to the policies and procedures implemented by Lorrequer
House at all times and to maintain an up to date knowledge of the
regulations and Hiqa standards.
* To act in a professional manner at all times.
* To ensure confidentiality in all matters concerning individuals in
our home and other staff, including the safe storage of records.
* To carry out any other tasks that may reasonably be assigned to
you by the Social Care Leader.
